Improv for Solo Performance with Dave Dennison
Dave Dennison		Dates & Times: March 20 - May 8, 2012 (8 sessions) Tuesdays 7pm-10pm in the Conference Room Class Performance on Monday, May 14th Location: The Marsh San Francisco, 1062 Valencia St. Developing solo work can be daunting. Improvisation liberates the creative process by connecting to the present moment, accepting failure and taking the first idea that comes to mind. Improv veteran Dave Dennison will use simple and fun improv exercises to develop new scripted material and enrich the writing and performance of works in progress. This workshop will also explore performing the story you know as opposed to the script you've memorized. The workshop culminates in a performance. Bio: Dave Dennison is a native San Franciscan who was raised in Daly City. While writing the librettos to two operas he discovered improvisation at Bay Area Theatresports (BATS) in 1993, and fell in love. Dave became a BATS Company member in 1998 and served as the Artistic Director of BATS from 2005-2008. He has performed in hundreds of shows and been a member of several improv troupes including Start Trekkin, Scratch Theater, the Particulars and Awkward Dinner Party, which he co-founded in 2008. Dave passionately loves teaching improv has taught improv at BATS Improv, Stanford University, California College of the Arts as well as for numerous companies. Tuition: $320. Students will start with their own script, idea, character, etc. and create a twenty minute performance piece. Topics will include: getting out of your own way; writing and improvising; the narrator as a character; the difference between psychology and art; relating to the audience. The class will meet ten times over the course of the above scheduled dates. Cancellation Policy: Applicants who wish to drop a class before it has begun may call 415-641-0235 for a full refund. Applicants who wish to drop the class after it has begun must notify the instructor and call the office at 415-641-0235 during business hours before the second class to receive a 50% refund and before the third class to receive a 25% refund. Charlie Varon		Dates & Times: January 10 - March 13, 2012 Tuesdays, 7pm to 10:30pm Class Performance: Mon, March 19 The Marsh San Francisco 1062 Valencia St, near 22nd St. Develop new comedy or solo performance pieces in a supportive setting. The workshop meets from 7 to 10:30pm for eight weeks and culminates in a special performance at The Marsh. The workshop is open to all levels of experience. Class size is limited, and admission is first come, first served. Tuition: Early-bird registrations: $350 for registrations received by Dec 20,2011 Regular tuition: $400 for registrations received after Dec 20, 2011 The full tuition is due at the time of registration.
