SQUEEZE BOX! MAY DAY PARADE! TOWLE’S HILL!
Dear All:
Happy Guy Fawkes Day. If we were in England we’d be warming our hands over a bonfire and playing with sparklers! As we probably aren’t going to do that, why don’t you come to The Marsh instead.
We’re delighted to announce that we’ve extended Wayne Harris’s show, MAY DAY PARADE. Starting on November 15, it will move to The Marsh Studio Theater (to make room for Carlo D’Amore already booked on the MainStage – more below) and play Saturdays only through December 13. This is such a Marsh show – a brand new work, an oh-so-talented up-and-coming performer – and delighted audiences. You can’t catch something like this anywhere else in the Bay Area. In true Marsh fashion, we’re giving the show plenty of time to build its audience, so come and be part of the fun. The password ‘bugle’ gets you in for $10.
TOWLE’S HILL is back this Friday with theater and wine – these have turned out to be some of my favorite evenings at The Marsh – plenty of time to chat afterwards with our audience, a delicious rarity indeed. The password ‘tasting’ gets you a $15 ticket – a total bargain for premium theater and, premium wine.
And then, of course, there’s Ann Randolph. The password for her is ‘squeeze.’ Why not do a double bill and catch Ann at 5:00 pm and Wayne at 8:00 pm this Saturday? Just tell our Saturday house manager at SQUEEZE BOX that you’d like to stay on for MAY DAY PARADE and you can see them both for $15 – how’s that? I just thought of it so I’m going to keep on writing before I change my mind!
Carlo D’Amore opens in NO PAROLE next week – a story about his strange and wonderful con mother artist. Check it out on our website and also this review on BroadwayWorld.com. http://broadwayworld.com/
My best,
Stephanie Weisman

She's a bit of a genius— Mel Brooks
“See the show… You really should. "Squeezebox" is the Marsh at its best: understated and brilliant.”
— Doug Konecky, SF Theater Blog
“Superb solo show squeezes out laughs, drama.”
—Chad Jones, Theater Dogs Blog and SF Examiner
“Hilarious and generally outrageous... a natural-born performer with a veteran's chops... a quiet sense of the miraculous— Bay Guardian
"When I first saw [Squeeze Box], I was deeply moved. Ann Randolph's amazing work, both as a writer and fellow performer, touched my heart and my mind so profoundly that I felt it belonged on the New York stage." — Anne Bancroft
"She goes in and out of these characters. She's a bit of a genius. I've been around, and I haven't seen so much talent in one person since I married Anne Bancroft. I've got to say that these are two great Anns, and I am glad that they hooked up together." — Mel Brooks
"Rubber faced Randolph is wickedly hysterical."
— Los Angeles Times
"Randolph allows us to see ourselves in and among people who seem utterly removed from our urban existence." — LA Weekly

With pathos and humor, Randolph skillfully weaves together stories about working in a women's homeless shelter and the pursuit of true love. Her painfully funny portraits of the shelter's residents, and hilarious account of her hiking trip with Harold the accordionist, man of her dreams, are beautifully drawn in this poignant tale about finding dignity and grace in unusual places.

“Just the sight of them big butt girls in short skirts doing the “dirty dog” down Newstead Blvd. put the crowd into a frenzy…I mean, folks were following the band down the street. Ain’t seen nothing like it before or since”
There’s a parade coming! ….so, get a seat on the curb with a snow cone and watch as Wayne Harris portrays 1 Baptist preacher, 3 generations on a porch, a 4 man bass drum ensemble, 12 rather large “letter” girls bumping and grinding down a mid-town boulevard and the 100 member Pleasant Green Missionary Baptist Church Drum & Bugle Corps.
Award winning performer and San Francisco Bay Area favorite, Wayne Harris, takes us on a road less traveled…(or maybe less marched) as he prepares at 8 years old, for his first parade maneuvering between a jealous big brother, a drunken deacon, a foul mouthed banner partner, new shoes and a grandmother of biblical proportions…. all while learning the value of family, history and the importance of staying in step!

TOWLE'S HILL
written and performed by Mark Kenward
Followed by a wine tasting of Gundlach Bundschu’s wines
Marsh Main Stage
Fridays at 8pm
Towle’s Hill does something we always want theater to do and that is make us more conscious. When we sip the wine, we do it with knowledge and with appreciation, so it’s that much tastier. And it is quite tasty…….Like the play itself, the wines were crisp, rich and eminently satisfying.” Chad Jones, Theater Dogs Blog

Gundlach Bundschu, California’s oldest family-owned and operated winery, is celebrating its sesquicentennial throughout 2008 at the winery and across the nation by putting wine on center stage with the creation of Towle’s Hill, an original, one-man play performed by Mark Kenward and directed by David Ford.
Towle’s Hill chronicles the history of Gundlach Bundschu, while offering insight into California history from the earthquake to prohibition. The dynamics of family businesses, the complexities of father-son relationships and the desire to create something meaningful from a lifetime of work form the heart of the show.
Towle’s Hill will be followed by a tasting of Gundlach Bundschu wines—a multi-sense event!
